SPEYSIDE
-
They say I look like an angel.
Maybe it’s the pale coat,
the way the winter light melts into me,
or these pale lashes that catch the silence. But I am no spirit.
I am flesh, and breath, and wind.
I feel the frost on my nose,
and the eyes of the world on my back.Still—
she didn’t look at me like I was strange.
She looked at me like I was light.
And in her lens, I became it. -

DEAR STORMER
-
I live where the world grows quiet.
Where wind speaks more often than humans do.
Where the glaciers watch over us like ancient gods.
We are the far ones—
the ones untouched by fences,
by roads,
by noise.
Some say we are wild,
but we are simply what you forgot to be:
whole,
undisturbed,
true.
She found me here.
Or maybe, I found her.
Because something in her felt like us—
a little alone,
a little weathered,
but still… still standing in the storm.

GODSHEAD
-
I didn’t yet look like a horse.
Too small, too soft.
Still finding my legs, my shape,
the rhythm of being alive. But she saw me.
Not for what I wasn’t yet—
but for the light I carried.I remember the warmth of my siblings beside me,
their pale coats like halos in the cold.
They made my color shine brighter,
like I was lit from within. She stood in silence.
Didn’t move.
Just looked at me as if I mattered. Some call it God,
what we feel in moments like this.
I don’t know the name.
I only know I was seen. -

SMALL FIRE
-
They call these sea stacks.
I call them my oldest companions.Every morning they stand where they have always stood, watching the ocean remember itself. I greet them the only way I know how—with the rhythm of my hooves across black sand.
You see a horse running.
I feel a small fire. Not the kind that consumes, but the one that quietly refuses to go out. It was passed down through every horse that endured these winds, these winters, this restless land.
I was born where fire becomes stone and stone returns to the sea. Nothing here stands still, and neither do I.
Perhaps that is why you came.
Not to witness my freedom, but to remember the small fire still burning inside yourself. -

WITH MOM
-
I knew she saw me.
Not just my eyes or coat—
but the me beneath it all.So I looked back,
and let her see the part of me I usually keep hidden.
The softness. The wonder.
The stillness of being close to my mother. It felt like she asked permission—
and I gave it.Sometimes, we let ourselves be seen.
And sometimes…
we even pose. -

MORNING RAIN
-
I wasn’t performing.
I was simply standing —
still, proud, present —
with the ocean behind me
and the wind soft on my skin. She was quiet, as always.
But I felt her eyes —
waiting for the right breath,
the right light,
the right me.This is the kind of moment she loves.
Not wild. Not loud.
Just honest.And that morning,
I gave it to her. -

HOW I MISS YOU
-
The rain always reminds me of you.
Not because you are gone,
but because some things return only as memories.I close my eyes and let the drops find the places your touch once did.
They never stay long.
Neither did you.Yet I wait without sadness.
Love, like rain, was never meant to be held.
Only remembered. And somehow, every storm brings you back to me.
Or a slightly more restrained version, which I think sounds even more like your recent writing:
The rain always reminds me of you.
It finds the places your touch once knew,
then disappears before I can hold it.I no longer chase what leaves.
I simply stand still long enough to remember. Some loves are not meant to stay.
Only to visit us, like the rain. -

LOKKADIS
-
They named me Lokkadis—
fairytale.And sometimes,
when the light touches the land just right,
I almost believe it too.She didn’t rush me.
She waited… just beyond the edge of my comfort.
Still. Quiet.
Like the wind before the sky breaks open.I remember how the clouds curled,
how the earth held its breath.
How she never crossed the line I hadn’t drawn.I was curious.
Careful.
And she… was kind.So I let her see me,
in that moment just before the storm. That was enough.

Fjöður
-
They call this land harsh.
But to me, it’s home.
I’ve learned the wind’s songs and the silence of ice.
I’ve learned how to stand still,
even when the world storms around me.
My name is Fjöður—
feather.
Because even here, where stone and glacier meet,
there’s room to be soft.
She waited quietly.
Didn’t chase, didn’t demand.
She just saw me.
And I let her.
You won’t find many of us out here.
But those who do—
never forget.

HEAVENLY FATHER
-
Simply put, Heavenly Father is perfection: the rare perfection that cannot be planned or predicted. The waterfall, Skógafoss, in full force shows the powerful energy of these water games. This photograph is almost unreal.

VOICE OF YOUNG
-
Voice of Young was taken on the ground in the snow at -15 °C; not an easy feat. But when you stay still, laying like a seal, the foals get curious and inch closer, creating the perfect picture: innocent, powerful, and pure.

GOD BLESS MOM
-
The snow had just begun to fall.
I lowered my head, curious — not afraid.
She didn’t move. She waited for me to come close.
And I did.I was only a foal then, still learning the rhythm of winter, still following the warmth of my mother’s breath.
But something in her eyes felt familiar.
So I offered her mine.In that moment, she didn’t see a horse.
She saw me — soft, wild, alive. She called this portrait God Bless Mom.
I think it’s because I reminded her of love — the quiet kind. -

FOR THE WIND
-
We do not run from the rain.
We run with it—
Through wind that stings,
Through earth that remembers,
Through skies that never promise. But it is the wind
that shapes us.
It tests our breath,
tangles our manes,
and pushes us forward
when standing still
would be easier. For the wind does not ask
if we are ready.
It simply comes.
And we, together,
choose to answer.Together we are louder.
Together we are stronger.
Together, we belong to something
older than weather,
wilder than words. We are the storm.
We are the freedom. -

P
-
P is for perfection. In this case, perfection is created by a beam of light breaking through an overcast sky and gracing the horse, making it almost look artificial. This beautiful horse, running in full force, decided to stop for a split second and showcase his beauty, magestically framed by his surroundings.

DELICATE
-
Delicate was a serendipitous occurrence on a long commute from my favorite place in southern Iceland, Landmannalaugar, on a summer day. I did not know this horse, but I had to stop and photograph it. It was a cloudy day, and I knew that overexposing the image and creating this white-on-white effect was the most delicate and pure way to show the essence of this horse.

HEAVEN
-
Peter, this horse belonging to my good friend Sunna, was in the perfect state to photograph. Born black, he was transitioning to white, the most beautiful and unique color of an Icelandic horse. Pictured here in Vik, another one of my favorite places, the winds are strong and powerful. The landscape of Vik, which also happens to be Peter’s home, makes this image complete.

LOVE II
-
Love II is one of our most sought-after photos. It was taken during a meteorological alert in 2017 where the winds were strong enough to drag your body off the ground. It is that natural energy that brings this photo to life. Together with the horses’ unique colors, the resulting image is truly a gift from the heavens.

BLINDED
-
Blinded
I know it looks as if I cannot see—
my faxi, my mane, falls across my eyes
like a curtain of winter light. But I miss nothing.
I feel the world in ways deeper than sight:
the shift of wind,
the softness of your breath,
the quiet truth of the moment we share.Through this veil, I learned to listen
to the earth beneath my hooves
and to the hearts that stood beside me.
Seeing is more than opening one’s eyes;
it is understanding.I was twenty-six when you captured me like this,
steady, wise, and gentle with time.
A year later, I left this world—
but not before reminding you
that clarity lives far beyond vision.Do not worry about what you think I couldn’t see.
I saw everything that mattered. In this photograph,
I stand as I was—
peaceful, present,
and guided by a kind of sight
that no light can teach. -

BIRDS OF SORROW
-
She was new to this land — soaked, shivering, uncertain.
We saw her before she saw us.
But we didn’t run.We stood against the wind, as we always do —
pressing close, shoulder to shoulder,
like wolves in winter,
like penguins guarding warmth in a frozen storm. She watched us — not just with a camera,
but with something deeper: hunger, hope… and reverence.
We gave her this moment.
And it changed her life. She called it Birds of Sorrow —
maybe because we looked like we were bracing pain.
But we weren’t broken.
We were together. -

REGARDING STACKS
-
Regarding Stacks happened on a summer day with Stella, who kindly took me with her team to photograph a herd of one hundred horses running in the highlands of Iceland. These two horses cannot stay away from each other, and their color makes them stand out from the others. This image captures their beautiful relationship and closeness.

BLACK BEACH
-
We have never feared the edge of the world.
We belong to an island where fire meets the sea, where every wind carries the voices of those who came before us.
Today we found the ocean.
Not as strangers, but as old friends. One of us searched the waves.
The other watched over the moment. That is how love often looks in the wild—
not possession,
but quiet presence. -

US
-
You keep drawing lines between one life and another.
We never did.
We belong to each other in the same way we belong to the wind—
not through ownership,
but through presence. If you looked at the world the way we do,
perhaps you would remember...
there has only ever been us. -

WET
-
A completely unpredictable rainy summer morning, dripping water, soaking wet. Wet embodies resilience, toughness, and stillness. It is proximity that makes this photograph work so well. Only a couple of steps away from this horse’s face you can see every hair, every raindrop, and every eyelash, helping to understand how strong these horses are and how much they can endure.

They have always mistaken gentleness for weakness.
We know better.
It takes far more courage to meet the world with a quiet heart than with sharpened teeth.

BASALT
-
I stood where the earth believed it was eternal.
Basalt, born from fire, shaped by centuries of wind and sea.
Even it was not spared.
The ocean reclaimed the shore beneath my hooves, and the place where you found me exists now only in memory.
You came looking for permanence.
Instead, I hope you left with something far more valuable:The courage to love what cannot be kept.

CAVALIER II
-
They call me a warrior.
But the greatest battles I have fought were never against another.
They were against the winter,
the wind,
and the quiet voice that whispers to give up.I am still here.
Not because I conquered the storm,
but because I learned how to walk through it. -

GO WITH HAPPINESS II
-
Leave what no longer belongs to you.
There is no prize waiting ahead,
no finish line to cross.Only the quiet joy of moving with those who know your pace,
trusting the road,
and letting the wind carry what you no longer need.Come.
Go with happiness. -

SLOW DANCING
-
Every dance begins with one willing step.
I took mine.
You took yours.Somewhere between your breath and mine,
the distance disappeared. There was no music.
Only the quiet understanding that neither of us had come to take.We had come to meet.

MY FAVORITE FADED FANTASY
-
She had been here before. Many times.
But this time… she felt different.
She didn’t chase. She didn’t ask.
She simply was — quiet, steady, part of the wind.
So I ran toward her.
Not because I was told, but because I trusted.
Because something in her stillness made me feel safe.
And when the shutter clicked, I was already gone —
hooves lifted, heart open, sand flying.
She called this Dear Hans.
And yes… that’s me.
But it belongs to both of us —
To the years it took to meet without fear,
To the moment she became one of us.

MANE
-
You see a braid.
I carry a lifetime woven into it.
Every strand remembers a season—
the salt of the sea,
the ash of the volcano,
the wind that never asked my name. From white to red,
I wear the landscape that raised me.
Not as beauty,
but as memory. -

LALI
-
You named me after someone you loved.
I do not know her,
but I know what time feels like.It is written in every strand that has turned to silver,
in every wind I have welcomed,
and in every season I chose not to resist. If I remind you of her,
I hope it is not because we have grown old,
but because we have learned to become gentle. -

NEW EARTH
-
You waited for me long before I knew why.
Each day you asked me to climb.
Each day the mountain answered with a breath too sharp for either of us.So we waited together.
Until the earth changed its mind.
When we finally stood here, I didn't see danger.
I smelled warmth.
I heard the ground whispering beneath my feet.Something ancient called to me—
not as a stranger,
but as kin.As if I had once been dust here.
As if the fire below had always known my name. You came searching for something new.
I think...
I came home.

P II
-
You search for places that make you feel alive.
I was born in one.The waterfall never tried to drown my spirit.
The snow never asked me to prove I belonged.
Here, even the wild knows my name.Perhaps that is what home is—
not the place that shelters you,
but the one that recognizes you -

THE WATCHER II
-
You call it shedding.
I call it trusting.
For months, this coat carried the winter for me.
It held the wind at a distance,
caught the snow before it reached my skin,
and reminded the cold that I belonged here too.But nothing meant to protect us
is meant to stay forever. So I let it fall.
Not because I have forgotten the winter,
but because I have survived it.There is a quiet courage
in knowing when to hold on...
and an even greater one
in knowing what no longer belongs to you. -

THE FENCE
-
We have always trusted a different language.
A quiet breath.
A gentle touch.
The patience to come closer without asking for anything in return.Perhaps the strongest connections are not the ones without barriers...
They are the ones that find each other despite them.

VIK II
-
You often believe change happens all at once.
It doesn't.
It arrives quietly,
one strand at a time,
until one day
you no longer remember
which color belonged to the beginning.Perhaps becoming
has always been gentler than we imagine. -

SLEEPNESS NIGHT
-
The night has never frightened me.
It is the silence that asks the most of us.
In the darkness,
there is no one left to become,
no distance left to travel,
only the quiet meeting
between who we are...
and who we have been avoiding. -

BETH / REST
-
I didn't understand your words.
But I understood your voice.
It arrived as softly as the falling snow,
asking nothing of me
except to be still.Perhaps that is what kindness sounds like—
not a language we learn,
but one we simply recognize. -

INNSAE
-
The weather said no.
The mountains disappeared. The plan fell apart.
But we stayed.Three of us — rare as snowflakes, white against white —
gathered close, not for the camera, but for each other. She had searched the island for us —
the white ones, the wild ones.
And on this day, in the storm that changed everything,
we gave her the moment she could never have imagined. She named this Innsæi — an Icelandic word with no direct translation.
It means to see within.
To sense beyond the surface.
To feel what lives beneath what’s visible — from the inside out. This became the cover of her book.
Not because it was planned,
but because it was true. -

HORSES OF ICELAND
-
You think
this is your favorite photograph. We think
this is the day
you finally came home. Not to Iceland.
To yourself.
We watched you
long before
you lifted your camera.We watched
your hurry
become stillness.Your searching
become listening.The wind
carried our manes.And quietly,
it carried away
the person
you had been.That is why
you keep returning.Not because
you miss us.But because
some part of younever left.

SISI

You come close — not above me, but with me. Your lens meets
my eyes the way another soul would. From this distance, I am
not just a horse shaped by wind and lava — I am breath, warmth,
presence.
My golden coat catches the quiet light. My mane falls over my
gaze. I feel you there, patient and calm.
You don’t take my image.
You meet me — almost human, nose to lens — and for a
moment, we simply share the same air.

MY ROOTS GO DEEP
-
You look
at my mane
and see
a tangle.I look
and see
where I come from.Every strand
has been woven
by the wind.Braided
by the storms.Carried
through winters
older than memory.My roots
do not grow
beneath the earth.They run
through lava fields,
across black sand,
over glaciers,
and into the soul
of the island
that raised me.You cannot pull me
from this land.Because home
is not where I stand. It is what
has already
become
part of me. -

INNSAE III
-
We felt it before we saw it—
the hum in the ground,
the mist thick with mystery,
the ancient pulse behind the falls. She had waited so long for this.
And we…
we walked as if the land had opened for us,
like something whispered us forward
at the exact moment the light turned holy.It looked like a dream,
but it was cold, real, raw.
We were not posing.
We were listening—
to water, to wind,
to the deep quiet of Innsæi:
the intuition that sees from within. -

B&W

You smile
because I am
half black,
half white.I smile
because I have never known
there was a difference.The snow
never asked.The wind
never cared.Neither did my mother.
Perhaps
you are the only ones
who learned
to separate
what was always meant
to belong.I have lived
my whole life
carrying both.And somehow,
I have always
been enough. -

FAMILY
-
You call us
a herd.As if we are
simply many. But we have always known
we are one. When one grows tired,
another carries the weight. When one keeps watch,
the rest can dream. When one is afraid,
none of us
faces the wind alone. This is how
we survive.Not because
we are the strongest.But because
we have never mistaken
strength
for standing alone. -

You search
for where I end
and another begins.We have never
understood
that question.The snow,

to belong.To become
so deeply known
that no one
needs to ask
where you begin. -

DIAMOND BEACH
-
We ran through the glacier’s fallen jewels —
ice scattered like glass across the black sand,
salt on our tongues, wind in our lungs. She brought us here to feel, not to pose.
And all I remember…
were her eyes — full of quiet expectation,
searching for the perfect moment. When we moved, she was ready.
This is where ancient ice meets ocean,
where wildness becomes light. -

FAXI
-
I was twenty-six winters old.
My mane had seen storms, my hooves knew patience, and my eyes had nothing left to prove.Petra said, “I need you to meet someone special.”
She brought her to me — quiet, curious. She understood right away. She didn’t rush. I didn’t speak.
But she saw it — the weight of years, the kindness that age can leave behind. They call me Faxi — “mane” in Icelandic.
But I was more than hair and muscle. I carried memory. I carried peace. This is my last portrait.
And it was given to someone who truly looked. -

Because my eyes
do not ask for your attention. But I have always been watching.
Not to judge.
Not to fear.Only to remember
the quiet language
you have forgotten. The wind knows my name.
The earth remembers my footsteps. And you—
you arrive searching for me,
never realizing
I have been waiting
to see
if you still know
how to look. -
